I just purchased a major fixer-upper in Northern California. Currently it’s 935 sq ft, I will be increasing it to 1400. I want in my house is radiant heating and warmboard seems to be the easiest installation for a DIY’er. I have a couple questions? The house has “small” crawlspace foundation, therefore what type of insulation will I need under the warmboard? Also I am on a tight budget therefore I am installing plywood 8″ plank nail in flooring, will this type of floor work with radiant heat?
Good morning. Thanks for writing. 8inch plank flooring is perfectly acceptable – virtually any hardwood will work over Warmboard. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a video showing one way in which that flooring can be installed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfCm9edpkaU
For insulation, we recommend a minimum of R-19. But please give us a call. Once we know a bit more about the space and environment, we can make the proper recommendation. 1.877.338.5493
