Turning on Warmboard during construction
Building a new home during the winter months can present unique challenges, especially in cold climates. Keeping workers comfortable and the structure dry is crucial for a successful and timely project. But Warmboard can heat a job site well before the time when a traditional heating system would even be installed. Our Warmboard Comfort System includes a feature called “Construction Mode” which can provide a host of benefits months before construction is complete.
What is Construction Mode?
Construction Mode is a feature that allows you to heat the structure before installing any of the controls, including thermostats, Manifold Controllers (MCs), and actuators. If the PEX tubing is installed and connected to a boiler, the system can operate, allowing contractors to work under significantly improved conditions throughout the remainder of construction.
This Instagram post from Lange Custom Builders illustrates some of the benefits of using Construction Mode:

Benefits of Using Construction Mode:
- Improved Worker Comfort:
- Keep builders warm, comfortable and working efficiently in chilly to frigid construction environments
- Reduce the risk of illness and improves overall job site morale
- Faster Drying Times:
- Accelerate the release of moisture from building materials, including slabs
- Gently dry the structure from the inside out, helping to help prevent mold and mildew growth
- Enhanced Efficiency:
- Earlier testing and troubleshooting of the heating system
- Ensure proper system function before final finishes and flooring are installed
- Reduced Risk of Damage:
- Minimize the risk of freeze damage to pipes and other plumbing components.
- Early Temperature Control:
- Provides the ability to regulate temperature and humidity levels early in the construction process.
How to Utilize Construction Mode:
- Install Warmboard Panels according to the design drawings
- Install the PEX tubing according to the tumbling layout.
- Connect the tubing to the manifolds
- Connect the manifold supply and return lines to the boiler
- Pressure test the tubing to check for leaks
- Fill the system with water
- Ensure electricity are supplied to the system.
- Turn on the boiler
To activate Construction Mode:
- Remove the cover from Warmsource
- Locate the Smart Reset Controller (SRC) and plug the Construction Mode jumper into the “Sensor 2” terminal:
- Use white jumper for 100°F water temperature
- Use red jumper for 120°F water temperature
- Plug Warmsource into the 110-volt outlet and confirm the system is ON by checking the LCD screen
Important notes:
The jumper must be installed before plugging in the SRC. If done incorrectly, you’ll need to:
- Unplug the jumper from the SRC
- Unplug the SRC from the wall outlet
- Plug the jumper back into the SRC
- Plug the SRC back into the wall outlet
By utilizing Construction Mode in our Warmboard Comfort System, builders can create a more comfortable and efficient work environment while ensuring the timely and successful completion of their projects.
